MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
At Stoneydelph Primary School, we believe that learning a foreign language opens the door to new cultures, broadens horizons and builds confidence. In Key Stage 2, our pupils learn French, developing their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a fun, engaging and progressive way.
Our curriculum is supported by a combination of Rigolo and Language Angels. Rigolo provides lively, interactive resources that introduce children to everyday vocabulary and conversational French through songs, stories and characters. Language Angels ensures clear progression in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation across Key Stage 2, building knowledge and skills year on year.
We are proud to work alongside subject experts from The Polesworth School and The Wilnecote School to further enhance and strengthen our curriculum. This collaboration ensures our provision is ambitious, up to date and aligned with secondary expectations, helping to create a smooth and confident transition for our pupils.
At Stoneydelph, language learning goes beyond the classroom. We work closely with our Geography Lead to celebrate international events and themed weeks throughout the year, promoting global awareness and celebrating the rich cultural diversity within our school and wider community. These experiences help children understand the world around them and develop respect and curiosity for different cultures and traditions.
To enrich our curriculum further, all Year 6 pupils are offered enrichment days at The Polesworth School and taster days at LIFT (formally TEC) as part of their transition programme. These opportunities allow pupils to experience language learning in a secondary setting, build confidence and raise aspirations for the next stage of their education.
By the end of Year 6, our pupils leave Stoneydelph with a strong foundation in French, a growing understanding of the wider world and the confidence and enthusiasm to continue their language learning journey.
