Safeguarding

Stoneydelph  Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This includes operating in a safe manner and ensuring that everyone is safe from harm including abuse, bullying or accident.
 
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the policies section on our website.
 
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
 
 
 
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: 
  • protecting children from maltreatment; 
  • preventing impairment of children's health or development; 
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and 
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
 
This means that we have stringent safeguarding and child protection procedures in place that all staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure they are aware of and operate to.

Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) is a statutory organisation whose main objective is to coordinate and ensure the effectiveness of work that is done in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18 in Staffordshire.

Staffordshire Families Integrated Front Door Service (SFIFDS)
 

The Integrated Front Door Service is Staffordshire's single point of contact for all professionals and members of the public to report concerns, request advice and share information about a child and/or family. This is now called Staffordshire Children's Advice and Support (SCAS)

If the child is at immediate risk of harm call the Police on 999.

If you are a member of the public who has a concern about a child, and they are not at immediate risk of harm, you should call Staffordshire Children's Advice and Support (SCAS)

If you are a professional you must decide on the child/family's Level of Need and use the online referral process. Levels of Need are used to determine the kind of support a child or family requires.


Keeping Children Safe Online at School

At Stoneydelph, we believe that online safety is a crucial part of your child’s education.  Details of teaching online safety can be found under the Curriculum tab.  We ensure that the schools ICT systems are secure and protected against viruses and malware.  We block access to potentially dangerous sites and where possible, prevent the downloading of potentially dangerous files.

Protective Behaviours Curriculum

As a whole school we teach Protective Behaviours to our children during the Autumn Term and revisit the themes regularly throughout the school year. Protective Behaviours is based on main two themes, which are used to teach and reinforce the basic concepts on which the process is based.

Our school will be further strengthening our safeguarding curriculum by delivering bespoke lessons to children from Reception to Year 6 focused on how to keep safe. This programme is part of the RSHE curriculum and will give children the skills and confidence to assess situations and make their own decisions that are vital to keeping themselves safe as they get older, enabling them to become independent young people. These are called ‘Protective Behaviours’ and children revisit and build on their knowledge of these in every year group.
