Science Week 2017

We have been having fun with Science this week, with lots of exciting things going on around school. We started the week with an assembly full of experiments from Mrs Gill and one of our governors, Lesley Clarke. We inflated a balloon using fizzy pop and sweets, grew our own crystals, made water walk and made elephant's toothpaste which was really good fun.

Reception and Nursery are doing some exciting activities and experiments on colour changes. They have been trying to change the colour of some flowers in their classroom. Year 1 and 2 had a visit from the animal lady. She bought in a leopard cat, a tawny owl, a snake, a chinchilla and a laughing kookaburra. They had a fantastic time learning about the lives of these animals. Year 3 and 4 are going to the Big Bang Science Fair on Thursday - they are all very excited. They are also doing a project on balloon powered cars.  Year 5 and 6 had a visit from Hilary Hampton from Veoulia, who spoke to them about recycling and being and Eco-town. They are now working on a project to turn us into an Eco-school and will be presenting their work to Hilary on Friday.

Over the past few weeks the local police have been working with a selection of our year 5 and 6 pupils. The areas covered have been; Road safety, Forensics, Communication, Home and personal security and Anti-social behaviour.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have learned a great deal. Mrs O'Neil said that she has seen the children grow during the course and that the children have developed as members of the local community. Today we were proud to see the children graduate as Junior Police Cadets. Well done and congratulations to all of our Police Cadets.

At the end of January some of our KS2 children represented our school as part of one of the biggest children's choirs in the country. They have been learning songs, dance moves and sign language for months and finally got to put all of their hard work to good use. They had a great time, but were very tired after a long day of rehearsals and performing.

We were delighted to welcome Bishop Michael of Lichfield to school this morning.
